Production and export of fabrics in Turkey

Turkish fabric industry produces almost all kinds of clothing fabrics, home textiles, upholstery and technical applications, has a well-developed structure, especially in the cotton-based industries, wool and man-made materials. Most of the produced tissue accounts for cotton. Textiles based on cotton consists of two segments.

One includes large company with vertically integrated production units in the system to ensure all stages of textile production - from fiber processing, spinning and weaving to printing and finishing. Many of them also produce finished products from fabric, such as clothing and home textiles. Another area consists mainly of non-integrated small scale enterprises. These companies are working with the Turkish manufacturing industry. It is one of the vital sub-sectors of the Turkish textile industry.

The volume of production of cotton cloth was 1.7 billion meters in 2004. In 2005, an estimated 1650 million meters of cotton cloth was produced. Raw materials to factories comes mainly from domestic sources. As a major world producer of cotton, Turkey ranks seventh in global cotton production to approximately 820 thousand. Tons in the 2006/2007 season. With the completion of the GAP, which influenced the development of aquatic resources and investment in agriculture, energy, transport, telecommunications and rural infrastructure, cotton production in Turkey was almost twice as much as in 2006 and 2007.
